Profile Summary

My research aims to use machine learning to extract insight from digital data in high impact domains, including but not limited to health care. My primary interest is in developing robust methods for mining and modeling multivariate time series, which are increasingly common, especially in medicine and mobile health. Currently, I am modifying and applying recurrent neural networks (RNNs) to clinical time series, which pose many challenges to traditional RNN structures. I am also interested in investigating whether recent breakthroughs in deep reinforcement learning can be used to learn and predict the effects of treatments and interventions. Previously, I used kernelized locality-sensitive hashing to enable fast similarity search over multivariate time series data, and studied active learning and transfer learning, two complementary paradigms for performing supervised learning in the absence of carefully prepared and labeled data sets.
