Dr. Yang Chen is a postdoctoral researcher at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He has a PhD in Earth and Environmental Sciences from the University of Michigan, before which he studied Earth and Space Sciences and Peking University. His research involves the study of chemistry and properties of natural and synthetic samples to understand the evolution of the Earth, Moon, Mars, and other planetary bodies. He conducts fieldwork, laboratory analyses and experiments, and modeling. He is also familiar with a wide range of analytical methods, including X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, electron microprobe analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and secondary ion mass spectrometry.
