About the project

Presently, I’m working on a project titled “Vector vortex beam and their scattering for communication application”. In our Optics laboratory, we are devising new tools and techniques to generate vector vortex beam. Most recently, I proposed a technique where the use of a glan laser polarizer (GLP), a q-plate and a polarization sensitive spatial light modulator (SLM) generates vector vortex beam which is having undefined phase at the centre and non-uniform polarization profile as well. We used this beam in order to establish a secure communication between two ends (data will be encrypted securely) and encoded the optical information. Apart from Vector vortex beam, we also have generated Perfect optical vortex (POV) beams in our lab using an SLM (being operated in phase only mode), an axicon and a lens (performs the optical Fourier transform of Bessel Gauss Beams in order to generate the POV beam). Also, we scattered these beams through a ground glass plate (GGP) after which speckle patterns (a fine granular random pattern of light which are generated due to the interference of many scattered wavefronts from the inhomogenities present in the surface of a GGP) were generated. Then we took the correlation (auto as well as cross correlation) of two speckle patterns and used this correlation in order to establish classical communication.
