10 Inspiring Women in Data Science to Follow on Twitter

About three years ago, Claudia Perlich, Chief Scientist at Dstillery, wrote that women in data science should be more visible and should actively participate in platforms through which they can be seen and heard. A report by NCWIT gives us the numbers – since 1991, the number of women in computing has been declining, but the number of women in other science fields has significantly increased. Today, women are becoming more prominent in the world of data science and analytics, taking the place of some of the world’s most influential data scientists.
From founders and entrepreneurs to directors and advisors, here’s a list of inspiring women in data science.
1. Hilary Mason
Founder of Fast Forward Labs, a company that helps organizations accelerate their data science and machine intelligence capabilities. Also Scientist in Residence at Accel (Formerly Accel Partners).
2. Monica Rogati
Independent Data Science and AI Advisor to about a dozen companies, ex-VP of Data at Jawbone, Guest Lecturer at Stanford University.
3. Julia Silge
Data Scientist at Stack Overflow, with a background in physics, astronomy and education. Co-author of the book, “Text mining with R”.
4. Renee M.P. Teate
Runs a popular blog on her data science journey, creator of the podcast ‘Becoming a Data Scientist’, regularly shares advice and resources for those seeking to become data scientists. 
5. Elena Grewal
Head of Data Science at Airbnb, doctoral candidate in the Economics of Education program at the Stanford University School of Education. active supporter of diversity in tech.
6. Fei-Fei Li 
Chief Scientist, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence at Google Cloud, Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University, Director, Stanford AI Lab. 
7. Carla Gentry
Data Scientist with 15 years of experience, founder of Analytical Solution, has worked with Johnson & Johnson, Hershey, Kraft, Kellogg’s and Firesto.
8. Claudia Perlich
Chief Scientist at Dstillery; designs, develops and optimizes the machine learning that drives digital advertising; published over 50 scientific articles and holds multiple patents; active industry speaker.

She has a background in Internet products (Netflix, Yahoo, Intuit) and mathematical consulting (PwC, SRA), and specializes in analytics, data strategy, recommendation systems, controlled experiments, and more.
