Epidemiologist & Scientific Writer | Experience in global health, infectious disease, and disease mapping

Profile Summary

My experience in research started in 2011 while volunteering in a plant molecular biology laboratory at the University of Florida. The goal of my research project was to determine the role of various proteins in Arabidopsis thaliana plants as well as the effects of altering light conditions on the growth and metabolic profile of broccoli sprouts. After graduating with my B.S. in Biology from the University of Florida, I took a position at the health department and decided to enroll in a Master in Public Health program to pursue a career in public health. While in graduate school at the Colorado School of Public Health, my studies focused on epidemiology and global health. During the following three years, I became involved in various projects in public and global health research, including project on seasonal influenza, HIV, hepatitis B &C surveillance as well as several projects in global health. For my MPH Capstone, I collaborated with the Center for Global Health at the University of Colorado with the aim to examine the risk factors associated with neonatal mortality in the Trifinio region of Guatemala. I also completed a project with the International Center for Advanced Research and Applied Science, an organization that focuses on evaluation and research. At INCAAS, I studied the risk factors associated with albuminuria and chronic kidney disease (CKD) in a Lima cohort. While working with Insightformation, Inc. to research best practices, promising programs and strategies, and lessons learned, I also delved deeper into the nationwide opioid epidemic. More recently, as Surveillance Epidemiologist and Data Evaluation Specialist at a local health department in Florida, I mostly managed and analyzed infectious disease data. My responsibilities included performing daily infectious disease surveillance, analyzing data using Microsoft Excel and R, preparing surveillance reports and mapping in ArcGIS. Additionally, I conducted program evaluation and quality improvement projects with division managers. I was also heavily involved in a local task force which aimed to combat the opioid epidemic. Currently, I am working as a public health specialist at the National Institute of Public Health in Poland where I mitigate the spread of COVID-19 on an international scale. I have enjoyed each of the projects I have been involved in thus far and I look forward to becoming involved in similar projects as a consultant. While I am open to collaborating on various projects, my main interest is to contribute to global health, especially through research.
